Marle Hall Volunteers Residential

26th-29th August 2008

A group of volunteers were recruited from Warwickshire and Solihull to go on a residential trip to North Wales. The group were a mixed bag including young parents, NEETS, employed young people and young people in education. They would not usually interact with each other outside of this opportunity. The group were existing volunteers at various projects around the area. The point of the trip was to allow the young people to get to know other volunteers, increase their teamwork skills and to allow them to try new and often frightening experiences. The residential was planned in conjunction with Warwickshire Council for Voluntary Youth Services (WCVYS). WCVYS are planning to involve young people more in their organisation and wanted to consult with young volunteers about the best way to do this. These young people were also asked if they would like to be a part of a volunteering youth forum. The group all completed an ASDAN activities award. During the week the group got the chance to participate in climbing, body boarding, sea level traversing, high ropes and team building games. Each young person gave 100% and the group became very close throughout the week and formed some strong friendships.
