Barston Young Farmers - Youth Action Team

Clay Pigeon Shoot September 12th 2008

Barston young farmers is a rural youth group ran by young people for young people. They meet once a week and have a busy program of activities and competitions throughout the year. The club have a nominated charity they raise money for each year, this year it is Motor neurone Disease. The group wanted to run a clay pigeon shoot for the surrounding rural community and other young farmers across the county in order to raise money for their nominated charity. The group began organising the event in June and coordinated the invites, advertising, field hire, toilet hire, refreshment hire, clay and trap hire, scoring cards and the clay shoot course. They organised for a number of volunteers from the young farmers club to help on the day. The helpers played a number of roles including taking the entry fees, handing out scoring cards, giving lessons to beginners, loading and pulling clay traps and showing people around the course. The day was very well organised and the youth action team did a great job of organising such a large scale event. The event was a great success and brought together groups of young people and members of the community that would not necessarily get the chance to interact with one another.
